"Making a memory with you is my favorite thing to do."
Richard Stroup, 67, of Medford, Ore. passed away October 3, 2016 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. Richard was born October 12, 1948 in Oakland, Calif. to Walter and Opal Stroup. He lived most of his life in the Rogue Valley.
Richard and Francis have shared their lives for over 34 years, marrying March 3, 1992 in Reno, Nev. Richard was a Jack-of-all-trades; cook, care provider, mill worker, certified meat cutter, and he volunteered daily for many years supporting the Safe Place. He always put others before himself and was the world's greatest grandpa who took care of all his grandchildren.
He had a college education and his hobbies included motorcycles, camping, kite flying, collecting dolphin memorabilia, attending family sporting events, riding the miniature trains, and he was the family safety coordinator. Richard served honorably in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; his mother, Opal Stroup; his brother, John Stroup; son, Chris Livingston; daughter, Tina (Bob) Lines; grandchildren, Steven Livingston-Lines, Jonathon and Nate Lines, Riley Livingston, and Zachery (Autumn) Snyder; nieces, Patty Carrillo, Shelley Chadwell, and Andrea Levingston-Armsted; and numerous adopted extended family members. His father and his cats preceded him.
Our G'PA was a treasure to all of us, including many of our friends; he gained this name because he was always present and ALWAYS put others before himself. Our greatest wish for him would have been that he understood his value and the impact he had on the lives of everyone he touched.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2016 at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary in the chapel with a private family graveside service to follow. Arrangements by Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford, Ore. 541-773-6162.
