It is with a heavy heart that our family notify the people of the Rogue Valley of the
passing of Edith Evelyn Rawlings-Hatch, 103, of Medford, Oregon, on August 1st, 2023
in Moorhead, Minnesota.
A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 18 at Hillcrest Memorial
Park, 2201 N. Phoenix Rd, Medford, Oregon. Her committal will follow.
Edith was born in Redlands, CA, to Ernest and Fern Starner on November 19, 1919. She
spent her early years on the plains of eastern Colorado, her family eventually settling in
the picturesque mesas of Grand Junction, CO, where she met Dewey Rawlings. They
were married on June 25 of 1937 and had two daughters, Edith Nellie (“Kellie”) and
Neva Louise. In 1950, the family moved to Medford, OR, and began a new life in the
rural Griffin Creek area. After Dewey retired, Edith entered the LPN program and
worked at the maternity ward at Rogue Valley Hospital for the next 20 years. After
Dewey passed away (d. 1983), Edith married Burnell Hatch in 1992 and spent 11 years
together enjoying one another’s company at home and traveling the country until he also
passed away (d. 2003). Edith moved to Moorhead, MN in 2015 to spend her final years
with her grandson, Shawn, and family.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Myrta, Fern, Louis (2 mos.), Agnes
and Linda, husbands Dewey and Burnell, her daughter Kellie and her and her
granddaughter, Kandace.
Edith is survived by her daughter Neva, grandchildren Valerie, Shawn, Melissa and
Renee, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived
by many extended family members and dear friends from Griffin Creek: Michael, Colin,
Christine, Sallie and Myrna.
Edith will forever be known for her unwavering dedication to Christ, and the overflowing
well of caring and compassion - always putting the well-being of others ahead of herself.
She loved nature, gardening, animals, hiking, crossword puzzles and pontoon rides. But,
most of all, she loved her family and friends dearly. They were - and still are - her
treasures. To everyone Edith was “Mom” in one way or another.
