    Maxine Hazel Horton

    February 9, 1920 - December 21, 2011

Maxine Horton, of Central Point, Ore., passed away peacefully at a senior care home with two of her children close by. She was born Hazel Maxine McCoy to W. Memory and Ollie (Caughron) McCoy, in Watts, Okla. She was the fifth of six siblings. Maxine married John W. "Jay" Horton on November 20, 1937, in Watts, Okla. They lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico, California and Oregon. They moved to Portland, Ore., in 1944 and then to the Rogue Valley in 1946, where they both found work in the orchards. Maxine also managed two small cafes in the area and later worked as a meat wrapper in two grocery stores. John and Maxine loved to camp, hunt and fish. Her favorite hobbies were cooking, making quilts, and reading scriptures. She was a long time member of the Foothills Baptist Church. Maxine is survived her children, Vivian M. Grisham, John Warren and Joyce (Johnson) Horton, of Central Point, Ore.; Ernie M. and Ginger (Bennett) Horton, of Clackamas, Ore.; Michael W. and Marilyn (Barker) Horton, of Beaverton, Ore.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren. Maxine will be greatly missed by family and friends, but her guiding and nurturing spirit will always be in our memories. A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012, 2:00 p.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the wonderful people of Providence Hospice Care. Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford, Oregon are in care of arrangements. www.hillcrestmortuary.com
